The History of Austin Under 40
The Austin Under 40 event has been an Austin institution since March of 1997 when the Young Women’s Alliance and the Young Men’s Business League joined together to honor 25 successful and philanthropic Austinites under the age of 40. Over the past ten years, we’ve raised more than $200,000 for the Austin Sunshine Camps and the Young Women’s Alliance Foundation. We have sent thousands of children to summer camp, supported year-round mentoring and tutoring activities, and funded educational scholarships for women.
Much has changed since the inaugural Austin Under 40 event where young Austinites gathered at the Austin Music Hall for a party themed “It’s a Jungle Out There,” complete with wild animals including exotic birds, snakes and monkeys. Our city has evolved, and so have we.
On March 7, 2008, we will gather at the place where it all started, to celebrate our success and honor exceptional Austinites. We’ll honor 50 finalists from whom we’ll select 10 category winners and the Austinite of the Year. In the spirit of the first event, we’ll continue to honor the best and the brightest of our community. We can’t wait to welcome ten outstanding individuals to our elite alumni club!
